Get out of your comfort zone once a month

At the beginning of the year I started practicing getting out of the comfort zone at least once a month. Do something I’ve never been before or something I do not feel comfortable, safe in my field.
What do I have from this?
1. Getting to know myself
When you are in a situation where you have never been, you will probably not react with enthusiasm. Confusion, discomfort, complete disorientation. It’s not the first reaction that matters but what’s happening after, how you behave, how you feel. All these things will show you a new part of you which you don’t have a chance to try out in veryday things that are part of your routine.
Every time when that moment happens, I write down what I’ve noticed about myself and see how could I use it in daily life.
2. Feeling of failure
10 days ago I tried Latin dance. Not that I do not have a rhythm for it, but I did not have it, and I was just bad, awful. Fortunately, the partner I’ve been dancing had so much understanding of my horror dance and after a long time I felt like how it’s like when I’m not performing well, how it is when you are at the beginning and you can not be at the level you want to be.
I enjoyed that moment and once more realized how important it is to be patient and persistent in the beginning of anything.
3. Other people’s reactions
It is very interesting to observe the reaction of the environment when you are doing something new, especially if all are experienced in that area. Sometimes they will make fun of you and sometimes theyy will be supportive. It is important to experience all situations, just to experience and then ask yourself how did you feel at each of these moments and what you can do to make yourself feel better and more comfortable.
Every time I realize how much the reaction of other people is less important than my reaction from the inside.
Conclusion
Challenge yourself once a month to make something that is not comfortable to you or have never tried. Write down how you felt at that moment, what was good for you, what made you frustrated, what was embarrassing to you.
There is a good chance to expand your sights, mentally strengthen yourself and have fun!
