Three types of motivation

Motivational pictures, motivational videos, we all love to motivate ourselves. Did we know that there are even three different types of motivation?

Emotional motivation

When you are motivated to do something for yourself, you are happy, fulfilled, you want to feel better. You are motivated to start something because it will give you a good feeling, put a smile on your face. You know when you wake up and you can hardly wait for your passion, you want to do it for free.

It is a sign that you are doing something for yourself, making you happy and fulfilled when money is not a question whether you will do it or not.

Social motivation

When you are doing something to give your contribution to community and society. This can be in small cities where you feel the need to contribute to the development of culture, for example, you are making a theater performance and you are motivated to gather local people and make a cultural event.

In larger cities it can be volunteering in associations, organization of events, conferences. You are doing it because you want to encourage a change in the society or community where you live.

Material motivation

When you do something to have external benefit. Some of the examples are a new car, a new smartphone, new piece of clothes. You are motivated to have this to see the benefit of it immediately and not for a few years if we talk about social changes or emotionally, here you just want that watch on your hand.

How to balance three types of motivation?

Last motivation should come as a product of the first two motivations, not as the only motivation. We will explain this on a simple example of starting your own business.

You started your business, why?

You started it for yourself, want to have something that is only yours, to be happy – emotional motivation.
You want this business to create something new, it will bring a new product to the market – social motivation.
The product of all this is more money, you can buy things – material motivation.
